WHO IS CUCO ALCAZAR?
The world of painting has captivated her since
she was young. Guided by the hand of her
father – although a doctor by profession, he
was a painting enthusiast – and with the
mentorship of her good friend, Antonio Iniesta,
she soon discovered that portraits would be
the theme that would accompany her for life.
Custodia García Alcazár, born in Manzanares (Ciudad Real), started her formal art training in 2008 after a long trajectory of self-teaching. It was in 2009 – 2010 when she decided to also include urban and rural landscapes in her body of work,
embodying the costumbrist character of her
homeland.

My teacher, and great painter, Antonio Iniesta, told me:
“For a portrait to be good, it has to look like the subject.”
We are in agreement, Iniesta, but I am even more demanding.
I want to see behind the gaze, I want to see the expression in their eyes, I want to transmit their feelings, and, why not? I want to even transmit their thoughts.
Cuco.

Cuco Alcázar looks to paint the soul of the people and things in her work. We observe her portraits, and far from discerning a realist or impressionist style, we distinguish a unique style, with her mark inherent in each work.
A style bathed in and possessed by a profound light and color that sets them apart. In her work, she expresses an ease of stroke in which light brush strokes come to life and the general use of spatula technique in oil painting gives a freshness and liveliness to her work.
The realist style evokes a carefree impressionism in which the perfection of the realism is broken by the improvisation of impressionism, and where the color, brush strokes, and the medium flow and take prominence before the reality of the moment.
The power of the drawing and mastery of watercolor technique allow her to capture the heart and soul, and most importantly, the everyday nature and tenderness.
